I read with interest in the March/April 05 Live Steam article "A Novice's Story: From Zero to Live Steam in 724 Days" about Jan-Eric's adapting an idea used in small-scale steam engines. I to have been experimenting with burners in my Aster NYC Hudson. I had the same problem with Stainless Steel screen burning up. I switched to NiChrome screen that I obtained from McMaster-Carr to solve this problem. Does anyone know Jan-Eric Nystrom's email address to pass this information on?

Hello John,
Jan-Eric's feat, how quickly he designed and built a rather complex locomotive, simply amazed most of us on the Model Engineering board, where he regularly posts. His web site is <http://members.surfeu.fi/animato/steamloco.html> and you should find everything you need there.

John,
Indeed, I have switched to pure nickel mesh, and it appears that it stands up rather better to the heat.
(I've submitted a one-page addendum about the 4-4-0 project to LS magazine, telling about some changes I made to the loco and the burners after writing the original story. Maybe it will be published some time in the future.)
Thanks for the info!
My email is animato@sci.fi
Best regards,
Jan-Eric Nystrom
